Modernized from “Recueil de Patrons a Tricotage, No 1” this is written by hand on the front cover but the inside page has a much longer title of: “Essai d’application de la peinture à l’art de tricoter : ou, recueil de patrons à tricotage : consistant en desseins pour gants, petits bonnets pour les enfans, enjolivures pour des bourses et des souvenirs, bordures de vestes, housses, tapis pour les tables, fourreaux pour les chaises, jarretières pour les enfans, bourses, bourses à tabac, un alphabet anglois et romain, remplissages, écrans, etc., ect.” by Emilie Berrin and published in 1800

These roughly¹ translate to “Collection of Needlework Patterns, No 1” For the modern day cross stitch is ‘point de croix’ in french. Tricotage is knitting, but the file is also catalogued as needlework.

“An attempt to apply painting to the art of knitting: or, a collection of knitting patterns: consisting of designs for gloves, small hats for children, embelishments for purses and keepsakes, jacket borderes, covers, table cloths, chair covers, garters for children, purses, tobacco pouches, an english and roman alphabet, fillings, screens, ect, ect.”

This is Tab. 6: “No. 6. Bordures, jarretières et lisières pour les enfans.” or Borders, garters, and trims for children.
