Abreviations

  • All standard abreviations (see this post)
  • HCS: horizontal cable (or chain) stitch
  • RHCS: reverse horizontal cable (or chain) stitch
  • HC: horizontal cable (or chain), refering to the whole strand of chains rather than a single stitch
  • VC: vertical cable, refering to the column of kbl and pbl sts that make a raised vertical cable

knitting chart
My aproximate chart, for reference while making the actual design
ROW 3+4: For the HC, the first step is an increase 1, rather than decreasing at the end of the row, I kept that st on my RN to continue as the VC. When working back on row 4, you will need to make an increase at/ around the HC, as you don't have enough sts, I worked mine around the last st, then kbl but idk how that will turn out, especially for creating an infinity loop. In the future I will also decrease a needle size or two when doing the HC as my stitches wound up being super long.

ROW 5: For the slipped sts I slipped them as if I was going to be knitting into the back loop, with the yarn in back

ROW 6: rather than the decreases that I had in the chart, I'm going to have the first 'branch' of the pattern be a knit, slip stitch where you knit into the stitch but rather than remove the original stitch from the LN you slip it to your RN. This is on the wrong side so it should be a p1 sl st
sts 11-13: p1 sl st, k1, k2tog
sts 44-46: k2tog, k1, p1 sl st

ROW 8

using a central double increase1 for 9-11 and 46-48,
23 + 34: it will be a combo of sl 1 k1 and HCS, like row 6 this is also on the wrong side
k1, keep original st on LN, use it to work a reverse horizontal cable (purl into the back loop of the 2nd st on LN then purl into the front loop of the 1st st), work this into the next stitch, hold st 26 on the front of the work (hold back) slip previous st to LN, put st 26 on your RN so it is on top (from the rs persepective) of the HC, then sl HCS to RN, then take st 2 on your LN and pass it over the first, sl HCS back to LN, work a RHCL, then sl st to RN.

sl next 2 sts (29 and 30 on previous row) to RN, pass 2nd on RN over the 1st.

Work a central double increase into the next stitch. Turn the work to the RS to move some of the stitches around. From left to right they will become: the VC (28), the top C2R stitch (25), and the HC.

First slip all the way back to the top C2L stitch, hold it in front and pass the stitch before it behind. You should end up with 2 purl/HC sts on right and 3 on the left of it.

Turn the work back to the WS pass the st you worked last to the LN and work two RHCS.
Turn back to the RS, sl 2 sts from LN to RN, take the 1st st on LN and hold it back, sliping the 2nd st to the RN before putting it back on the LN, sl 2 more sts from the RN to the LN. Then turn to WS again.
work one more RHCS.

Back to semi normal knitting (sts to 22-1): k1, pbl, k4, pbl, CLP 1/3, k2tog, central double increase, k2tog tbl, k4, pbl, p2.
needed to p2tog at 24

Editing

I'm more than tempted to draw down and redo the center right cable, it looks super out of place compared to the other cables which I'm relativly happy with. After a bit of fiddling I was able to get the cables in the right order and tighten some of the stitches.

ROW 11

st 16 is a purl left lifted increase, then for the next sts there will need to be more rearanging than what is normaly done for a C2L. from right to left the next sts on your LN should be a knit, purl, knit, purl. sl the first st to RN, hold the purl back, sl the next knit st to RN, put the purl stitch on the LN, transfer the knit sts to the LN, holding the first to the back to make the C2L. knit 2, Then purl the next 2 sts together

for 22-24, hold 23 back, then take 22 and 24 and cross them so 24 is on the top. Leaving 24 on the RN and 22 on the LN, take 23 and slip it to the LN, then slip 24 to LN. Now knit purl knit.

ROW 12

This row is complicated, but because it doesn't have any HCS I am going to rearange my stitches before the row, this will also allow me to work on the RS for any stitch movement.

ROW 13

This row is also complicated and it has HCS combined with working an infinity loop. Work through the 6th stitch, working the HCS towards the left, then starting with stitch 7, you're going to draw down (undo) stitches and redo them so that the HCS you just made now face right AND so that the stitches for the vertical column face down. There is a small loop on the back that will need to be secured later, for now I just put a stitch marker on it to prevent any unraveling.
